Day 8 Ultrasound Update

I had my day 8 ultrasound appointment this am and I was number 2! Woohooo moving up in the world.ย  ๐Ÿ˜‰
day 8
Good news! The party is still on the right but the left has bought the keg and is selling tickets at the door. My follicles are responding to the medication which I am more than thrilled about. It makes it easier to get nightly injections when you know they are doing what they are meant to do!
Day 8 measurements:
9 on the Right Ovary: 16,16,16,15,15,14,13,13,11
8 on the Left Ovary: 13, 11, 11, 11, 10, 10, 10, 10
Next step is to continue tonight and tomorrow night taking the same dose of meds as I have been taking. We will go to the doctor on Saturday and Sunday morning to give more blood and get an ultrasound.ย  However we will bring my meds both days and I may possibly get shots in the morning as well as the evening. Based on what they see they will give us instructions, but it looks like our retrieval day will be either Monday or Tuesday. ๐Ÿ™‚
How many days in: 8
Shots given and amount: Gonal-F 75IU (first) Menopur 75IU (second)ย  AND Ganirelix 250 mcg (third)
Shot time: 8:15
Sleep: Didn’t sleep well, was really hot. Doesn’t help that our building refuses to turn on the air conditioning until May 15th. Thanks.
Side effects: Fatigue
Queasy or sick: No.
Black and blue: Yes, on my right side.
Not looking forward to: Finding pants that fit for work tomorrow.
Looking forward to: Our Saturday appointment!

Party on the right!

We headed to the Dr. this AM and good news, follies are growing and the party is on in the right ovary! The left…is still waiting for some more RSVP’s.

Left 6 Follies Measuring – 10.5, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10

Right 8 Follies Measuring- 13.2, 10.5, 11, 10, 11.5, 11, 11, 12

My follicles will need to grow to at least 18 mm for our retrieval to happen.ย  My right ovary feels like its going to explode and we are only at 13.5 mm. ย So I’mย excited interested scared to see how much more bloated I can actually feel.

Not looking forward to:ย  The addition of a third needle tonight which according to the nurse is,ย SURPRISE, and I quote “a dull beveled needle that you’ll need to insert it at an angle because it hurts”. Wow, thanks lady.
Looking forward to: Going to bed tonight.
And this is my night cap.

Day 3 – IVF shots from my office

Today I woke up to no neck pain AND…
photo 3 (2)breakfast in bed! Most thoughtful husband award goes to…MIKE! Such a love.

Last night’s recap:
The weather was beautiful yesterday so Mike and I decided to walk across town through Central Park to my school to drop off the meds before the Auction.ย  The walk through the park was lovely and there were tons of people enjoying the weather and the one square of grass that exists in this city.

Mike carried a backpack with the meds and an icepack for the Gonal-F. We got to school, put the drugs in the fridge and headed to the Auction. NYC school Auctions for those of you who don’t know, are events where businesses donate items and the school children make projects which go for thousands of dollars. This was Mike’s first Auction and he was amazed that the teepee, see it in the back left of the picture, went for $8,000.

Our paddle number was 356…and it did not make an appearance last night.

How many days in : 3
Shots given and amounts: Gonal-F 75IU (first) Menopur 75IU (second)
Shot time: 8:30pm. We left the Auction at 8:15 to walk the three blocks back to school and it had just started to downpour. Amazing timing. ๐Ÿ™‚
Sleep: Went to bed when we got home form the Auction at 11pm.
Side effects: None today! ๐Ÿ™‚
Queasy or sick: No
Black and blue: No
Not looking forward to:ย  Tonightโ€™s menopur shot. Last night we iced my belly for only 3 minutes and that seemed to make the menopur less painful so we will do that again and cross our fingers!
Looking forward to: The salmon we are making for dinner tonight.

Yesterday I mentioned our diet and how we are trying to eat more veggies.
ย photo-2
Red peppers, cucumber, Figi apple with Almond butter and raw kale chips.
Mike is not a fan of the kale.

Day 2

ecard 2
How many days in : 2!
Shots given and amounts: Gonal-F 75IU (first) Menopur 75IU (second)
Shot time: 8:30pm
Sleep: Fell asleep soon after my shots, I swear these drugs make me tired and I slept great!
Side effects: I woke up with strange neck pain. I was fine while laying in bed but the second I stood up and gravity kicked in I was in pain. It felt like a stiff neck however it wasn’t my “neck”. It hurt on both sides from my collar bone down to the top of my chest and my lower scalp area. I walked to the grocery store and picked up some fresh yummy food (more on that later) and the walk seemed to help. The pain only went away after I ate breakfast.
Queasy or sick: No
Black and blue: Nope!
Not looking forward to:ย  Tonight’s menopur shot. Those bad boys HURT! To make matters more interesting Mike and I are attending my school’s Auction tonight which happens to fall between the hours of 7-9 when I take my shots! Now it makes sense why the Dr. told us to not make ANY plans during this time.ย  The plan: The Auction is only three blocks away from my school so we are dropping the meds off at school and putting them in the fridge. We’re leaving the Auction around 7:30 and taking the shots at the school and then going back to the Auction. Never a dull moment. ๐Ÿ™‚
Looking forward to: My appointment on Tuesday to see what our progress is. Mike is coming with me and we are both excited to hear what our eggs are measuring.

I’ve been reading a lot about diet during IVF and I went to the store today to get us some fresh veggies and fruit. I don’t plan on changing our diet that much but maybe cutting back on pasta and beefing up on greens and fruit.ย  Mike isn’t thrilled about it but I’m also switching us to whole wheat pasta for these few weeks. I’ve also been drinking a ton of water lately and although I use the restroom every 10 minutes I feel like I have a lot of energy.

First IVF shots

What are the first shots REALLY like? Well, this was our experience.

I woke up and was across town by 6:50am to sign in for my Day 2 testing, early bird gets the worm. I was told to be at the office between 7:30-8:30 to have my tests done and I could sign in at 7:15 but I was eager.ย  Well I got there at 6:50 and I was #4 in line!

First of all how sweet is my husband? Look at what he came home with to celebrate the start of our IVF with PGD cycle.

This is our first night and I had to take 75IU of Gonal-F and 75IU Menopur. Mike prepared everything below and I sat in a chair and took pictures. ๐Ÿ™‚

Step One: Take Gonal-F out of the fridge and leave at room temp for 30 min. I’m not gunna lie, the Gonal-F and the fact that it came in a pen threw us for a loop. So, we did what any adult our age would do…watched a few youtube videos about how to use it.

Step Two: Prepare the Menopur. Mix the saline with the powder and set aside.

Look at that form…it’s like he is a professional or something.

Step Three: Use alcohol swab to prep area.

Step Four: Pinch area 1 inch to the right and 1 inch below my belly button and inject Gonal-F. Release pinch and hold button on pen down for 10 seconds and pull needle out.

Step Five: Pinch same area of skin again and insert the Menopur.

Step Six: Clean up and drink water.ย  I was super thirsty!

Step Seven: Put on the Bruins and the Sox.
